The Double Half-Hitch knot (Clove Hitch knot)

The macrame Double Half-Hitch knot is a variation of the regular half-hitch knot, where two half-hitches are tied consecutively to create a more secure and sturdy knot. It is known as a Double Half Hitch knot or a Clove Hitch knot.

The Double Half Hitch knot can be tied in several directions, namely horizontally, diagonally and vertically. I will go through each of these directions below.

How to tie a HORIZONTAL Double Half-Hitch Knot step-by-Step 

*Note: the blue cord is the anchor cord and the far-left vertical cord is the working cord for this knot.

1. Angle the anchor cord to the direction we're trying to head to, which is horizontal to the right. Take the vertical working cord and wrap it over the anchor cord to the left side. Pull on the working cord to tighten. At this point, a Half Hitch knot is formed.
2. Repeat once more with the same working cord by wrapping the cord over to the left and through the loop.
3. Pull on the working cord to tighten.

When repeated, a horizontal row of Double Half Hitch knots is formed.

How to tie a DIAGONAL Double Half-Hitch knot step-by-step 

1. Angle the anchor cord to the direction we're trying to head to, which is downward diagonally to the right.
2. Take the vertical working cord and wrap it over the anchor cord to the left side. Pull on the working cord to tighten. At this point, a Half Hitch knot is formed.
3. Repeat once more with the same working cord by wrapping the cord over to the left and through the loop.
4. Pull on the working cord to tighten.

When repeated, a diagonal row of Double Half Hitch knots is formed.

How to tie a VERTICAL Double Half-Hitch knot step-by-step 

*Note: the far-left vertical cord is the anchor cord and the blue cord is the working cord for this knot.

1. Angle the anchor cord to the direction we're trying to head to, which is vertically downward.
2. Take the horizontal working cord and wrap it over the anchor cord to the left side, underneath and through to the right. Pull on the working cord to tighten. At this point, a Half Hitch knot is formed.
3. Repeat once more with the same working cord by wrapping the cord above the first knot and through the loop underneath.
4. Pull on the working cord to tighten.

Although the direction of the knot is vertical, you may take the same working cord and continue with a row of Double Half-hitch knots onto consecutive vertical anchor cords.
