Macrame Lotus Flower Pattern Wall Hanging (Using 4 Basic Macrame Knots)

Hi Knotters!

Knots are the most IMPORTANT thing to know when it comes to macrame and making designs. If you would like to get better and improve on your macrame skills, constantly practicing and learning new knots is KEY!

In this macrame blog post, I’ll be going over how to make a lotus flower wall hanging pattern using four basic knots – Lark’s head, Square knot, Double Half Hitch knot and the Gathering knot.

I’ve always been fascinated by lotus flowers and how they grow from muddy waters and also because they symbolize enlightenment and self-regeneration.

I wanted to start off the new year of 2020 with this pattern, just because a new year usually marks a new chapter in everyone’s lives, and for some people that means a fresh-new restart.

If you’re ready to join me on your macrame journey, follow along in making this beginner-friendly macrame wall hanging.

I have laid out step by step instructions, along with a video tutorial that will help guide you through this piece.

Grab your cord and supplies, put on some soothing tunes, and let’s begin!

Step 6: Taking the middle right cord as the anchor cord, we’re going to make it Double Half Hitch knot.

Step 7: Continue with two more Double Half Hitch knots to the left. Then on the right side, make two Double Half Hitch knots with the top left cord, as the anchor cord.

Step 8: Then take the fifth cord from the left as the anchor cord and make a series of Double Half Hitch knots to the right, for a total of four Double Half Hitch knots.

Step 9: Then take the anchor cord we had just made a few Double Half Hitches on and use that as a working cord for a Double Half Hitch knot on the anchor cord to the right. Then taking the same working cord, make another Double Half Hitch Knot going the other way.

Step 11: We will now start closing off the middle petal by taking the vertical cords in the middle section, and attach them on to the left anchor cord using Double Half Hitch knots. Starting with the inner far left cord, attach the cord on to the left anchor cord using a Double Half Hitch knot. Continue along to the next cord to the right.

We will then continue with the petal to the left by taking adding Double Half Hitch knots onto the same anchor cord.

Step 12: We will now add the third petal on the left side. Starting with the far left cord as the anchor cord, make another diagonal row of Double Half Hitch knots to the right, stopping at seven Double Half Hitch knots. Start by curving the Double Half Hitch knot row upwards, then diagonally following the second petal, on the right.
