If you are looking to learn a new unique knot to add to your patterns or designs, this knot is easy and quick to incorporate.
Try out the Eternity knot, a nice substitute to the barrel knot for the fringe ends in wall hangings and a great decorative knot for plant hangers.
It’s a simple knot to decorate plant hangers, wall hangings, handmade jewelry (bracelets, necklaces, and rings). Eternity knots are suitable for almost any type of project.
I’ve used it in many handmade fashion accessories and other macrame interior designs.
We’ll be going over two ways to make the Eternity knot.
The first way is horizontal, using one strand of cord, and the second way is vertically using one strand of cord.
We will begin with the horizontal Eternity Knot.
How to Macrame a Horizontal Eternity Knot
Step 1: Take one strand of cord, about 40 centimeters long and make a loop in the center by folding the right side over the left.
Step 2: Then on the right side, scrunch up some of the string together to form a loop. Take that loop and place it within the left loop and then pull on the left cord to tighten.
This is a Slip Knot.
Step 3: Next, take the right end and weave it through the loop, from front to back.
Step 4: Turn the backside to the front and then twist the right loop. Place the left cord end through the loop.
Step 5: Pull-on the cord end to tighten. This is a horizontal Eternity Knot.
How to Macrame a Vertical Eternity Knot
We will now make a vertical eternity knot and it is made the exact same way as a horizontal one. The only difference is it is made with one end of the cord.
Step 1: Start by taking the right side of the cord while holding the cord horizontally and fold it over to the left to form a loop. Then on the right side, scrunch up a part of the cord and form another loop.
Step 2: You will then weave the bottom (right) loop through the top loop, then pull on the top end of the cord to tighten the knot.
Step 3: Take the bottom end and weave it through the loop from front to back.
Step 4: Then turn the pattern upside down and form another loop by twisting the slip knot loop.
Step 5: Then place the left cord end through the loop we had just made.
Step 6: Pull-on the cord end to tighten the knot.
You have now made a Vertical Eternity knot.
