3 Macrame ANGELS to DIY This Holiday Christmas
Okay, so I changed it a little - but with so many beautiful macrame Christmas angel ornament options out there we’re pretty sure that’s what I should say!
As much as the angel on the top of the tree is a statement - she isn’t the only angel out there and we believe all the ornaments should say something rather than simply act as background decor!
The best way we can think to do this - DIY macrame ornaments!
We’ve been sharing lots of blogs about tapping into your creativity and getting started with macrame project design.
A big theme in these blogs has been finding inspiration and using it to create your own unique projects.
With Christmas coming, I wanted to put all that advice into action.
So, I designed three beautiful Christmas Angels as a way to say thank you for being such an amazing community—and to show you that inspiration is all around us!
Easy Macrame Christmas Angel
The first angel is a true celebration of my love for fringe!
Fringe is such a distinctive feature of macrame—it’s something you don’t often see in other knotting arts, which makes it uniquely special.
In macrame, fringe offers so much versatility.
It can add depth, texture, and a sense of movement to your designs, transforming simple knots into something dynamic and eye-catching.
For this angel, I used fringe to create a beautiful, flowing hair effect.
It adds a realistic and whimsical touch that brings the design to life.
The soft, flowing strands make the angel look delicate and peaceful, perfect for the holiday season.
It’s a small detail, but it’s one that really ties the whole piece together and showcases how powerful fringe can be in elevating a project!

Angel Ornament with Leaf Wings
This angel was inspired by my love for the Christmas season—and my appreciation for the double half hitch knot (DHHK).
The wings in this design are crafted entirely using the DHHK, a versatile and intricate knot that’s ideal for creating texture and depth.
These wings add an extra layer of detail that makes the angel truly stand out.
The textured pattern gives the wings a graceful and delicate appearance, almost as if they’re ready to take flight.
This technique not only highlights the beauty of the DHHK but also enhances the angel’s unique character.
It’s the perfect way to celebrate the magic of the season, blending the elegance of macrame with the timeless charm of Christmas.

Christmas Angel with Loopy Wings
This Christmas Angel holds a special place in my collection. What makes this macrame angel truly unique is her wings.
Instead of using fringe, which is often the go-to for angel wings in macrame, I decided to take a different approach.
Using the double half hitch knot (DHHK) tying technique, I created elegant loops within the wings.
This technique adds a soft, flowing structure that gives the wings a distinct and delicate appearance.
The loopy design feels light and airy, capturing the essence of an angel's ethereal presence.
The intricate loops also add depth and texture, making the wings a standout feature that sets this angel apart from more traditional designs.
It’s a beautiful blend of creativity and craftsmanship that brings a fresh, graceful twist to a classic holiday decoration.
Go ahead and give it a try!

Christmas Angel with Large Wings
This final angel is a true reflection of my love for macrame.
She embodies the joy and freedom I feel every time I pick up my cords and start knotting—a space where creativity flows and possibilities are endless.
Her wings are a perfect representation of this feeling.
They combine two of my favorite macrame elements: fringe and the double half hitch knot.
The structured elegance of the DHHK adds intricate detail, while the soft, flowing fringe brings a sense of lightness and movement.
Together, they create wings that are both delicate and bold, symbolizing the freedom and beauty that comes with exploring your creativity.
Every knot in this angel tells a story of passion and inspiration, reminding me why I love this craft so much.
She’s more than a decoration—she’s a celebration of the art of macrame and the limitless potential it holds to turn simple materials into something truly beautiful.
