Cord Length for Macrame Keychain Heart-Shaped Pattern
To make this diy macrame keychain you will need 4 pieces of cord, each measuring 175cm (69") in length, you will need a total cord length of 700cm (276").

Macrame Keychain Step-by-Step Instructions
In this step-by-step guide, we'll walk you through the process of creating a macrame keychain from start to finish.
Follow along as we break down each knot and technique, empowering you to craft your own personalized and stylish macrame keychain with ease.
Step 1:
- Take 4 x 175cm cords, measure 70cm on one end, and make an overhand knot.
- Collect all four cords, preferably in different colors for easy distinction.
- Align the cord ends and take the rightmost cord, passing it over the other three cords from right to left.
- Repeat the process from the opposite end, going left to right, and bring the cord out through the loop created by the first cord.
- Use the first and fourth cords to tighten the knot, ensuring equal tension on all cords.
- Repeat the process, beginning with the second cord passing over from right to left. Repeat the same step on the third cord, bringing it out through the loop created by the second cord. Finally, pull the second and third cords to evenly tighten the knot.
Step 2:
- Using the longer cord ends, create multiple Crown knots until a length of 3 inches of knots is achieved.
- Secure the cords in place with tape to prevent them from shifting.
- Take two cords of equal length and cross them over each other to form an "X." Move the cord on the left to the right, creating a left loop.
- Guide the right cord over the left cord, then pass it under the loop from step 1.
- Pull both cords tightly to secure the first half of the knot.
- Upon completing the first half, you will notice that the cords are crossed in the opposite direction.
- To create a loop on the right side, bring the right cord over the left cord.
- Pass the left cord over to the right, going under the loop created in step 1. From the back to the front, thread the left cord through the right loop. Finish the crown knot by pulling both cords tightly.
Step 3:
- Bring the ends together and swap one cord on each side.
Step 4:
- Secure one side with tape and begin by creating a few Crown knots on the other side using the new end of the crossover cord.
Step 5:
- Repeat the process on the other side, making a few more Crown knots.
Step 6:
- Continue the Crown knot pattern on both sides until approximately 3.5" to 4" of knots are created.
Step 7:
- Insert the crochet hook through a loop at the bottom of the center pattern and thread a strand of cord through on one side. Repeat the same process on the other side.
Step 8:
- Utilize a 25 cm scrap cord to create a Gathering knot at the bottom. Begin by forming a small loop with one end of the leftmost cord to initiate the gathering knot.
- Start wrapping it around the other cords, then pass it through the loop. Repeat this process until a larger loop is formed. Tighten the knot by pulling both ends.
- When you achieve the desired tightness and size, you can release the knot.
Step 9:
- Using another 25 cm scrap cord, create a Lark's Head knot onto the Lobster clasp.
Step 10:
- Thread the cord ends through the top of the heart and secure them with a Double Overhand knot.
By repeating these steps, you can skillfully craft designs using four cords and overhand knots.
Once you become proficient in the technique, creating macrame objects will become effortless.
Enhance the enjoyment by experimenting with various color combinations and placements to achieve your desired outcome.
