Macrame Knots To Know:

  • Double Half Hitch ("DHH")

This beginner-friendly tutorial mostly uses the Double Half Hitch knot, which is super easy, and a staple of most macramé projects. The best part? It only takes a few minutes!

If you're unfamiliar with this knot, I encourage you to download our 50 knot free eBook to familiarize yourself with these knots, along with other commonly used knots.

This project should take 15-20 minutes, depending on your skill level.

Cord & Supplies

Cord & Materials:

You can find all these cords and supplies in our shop. I used a 1.5mm 2 ply string, and 3mm single strand macramé cord, both from our Rainbow line, in the color Natural.

Cord Lengths:

Cord: 3 x 150cm (59”)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Mini Wreath Ornament

Step #1:
Place a 150 cm cord down horizontally and place another strand down vertically for a Double Half Hitch ("DHH") knot leaving 4" of space at the top.
Step #2:
Leave about 3.5" on the left-end and take another strand of 150 cm cord for a DHH knot on the right-side leaving 5" of space at the top.
Step #3:
Fold the right cord end over to the left for 2 DHH knots.
We have now completed one U-shaped DHH knot pattern.
Step #4:
Repeat another U-shaped pattern by making another row of DHH knots to the right and then back over to the left.
Step #5:
Repeat until a total of 13 U-shaped patterns are made.
Step #6:
Take the bottom 2 cords and make a DHH knot.
Step #7:
Taking the next cords on both sides up, make a Double Overhand knot.
Repeat again with the next set of cords above.
Step #8:
With the 2 cord ends at the top, make an Overhand knot.
Trim the excess cord.
Step #9:
Weave the 4 cord ends through the loops at the back.
Cut off the excess cord.
Step #10:
Make a bow with a 10" ribbon and then weave a 15cm string through the back of the bow.
Step #11:
Weave the string ends through the top of the wreath and tie a double Overhand knot at the back.
Cut off the excess string ends.
That’s a wrap on the ringless wreath pattern.

And there you have it – your very own stunning macrame mini wreath ornament!

This DIY project is a fun and easy way to add a personal touch to your holiday decor, and the possibilities are endless.

Use different colors and types of cord, or add some beads or other embellishments to make it truly unique.

Whether you're an experienced macrame artist or just starting out, this project is sure to bring some extra charm to your holiday season.
