What is Macrame?
Before we begin, let go over what macrame is and how it has evolved.
Macramé is a type of craft where you use knots to create patterns. It's been around for a very long time, even in ancient times, and people from different places have enjoyed doing it.
But that's not the end of the story. In the 1970s, macramé changed a bit and became really popular.
And guess what's happening now? It's coming back in modern design and decoration!
Artists today are doing new and exciting things with macramé. They're mixing old and new ways of doing it.
What's the big deal?
Well, it's leading to all kinds of cool stuff like fancy wall hangings, neat plant holders, and even stylish clothes and accessories.
Macramé is more than just one thing. It's an art that's getting popular again and catching everyone's attention.

DIY Keychain Wristlet Cord & Materials
You'll need a few essential materials and supplies when creating this macrame keychain wristlet pattern.
Choosing the cord
The most crucial material is the cord. Macrame cords can be made from various materials such as cotton, jute, or nylon, each offering a different texture and appearance.
Choosing a cord that is soft, sturdy, and suitable for your desired keychain design is essential, ensuring durability and functionality.
I have used 3mm single strand cord in Silver fox from our Rainbow cord line for this pattern.
- Our Rainbow cord line is certified 100% chemical free and eco-friendly as the cords are made from recycled cotton.
- There is a variety of sizes, types, and color offerings to choose from.
- We love using the Rainbow cords because they are smooth, soft, and sturdy, making them easy to work with.
If you can't get your hands on our single-strand Rainbow cotton cord, try substituting it with our 3-ply Rainbow cotton cord, which will also work well for this pattern and offer a more textured aesthetic.
Other supplies
I also used 6 x Large Hole Beads (at least 5mm hole), and a lobster clasp or keyring. The beads are optional if you don't have any laying around. I like to add them into my project to give it more texture and unique look.
Other than a lobster clasp or keyring to permanently attach the cords onto, other supplies are not needed.
