Fast forward to today, there's a remarkable resurgence of interest in Macrame within design and decor.

With artists actively exploring innovative techniques, blending tradition with modern elements, we now witness a delightful range of captivating macrame pieces, from wall hangings and plant hangers to trendy fashion accessories

Macrame Knots You Need to Know to Make the Daisy Keychain Pattern

Getting familiar with macrame knots is essential for mastering the art of Macrame. For this project, you will need to know the following knots:

The above knots are basic knots widely used in many macrame projects.

By learning popular knots like the lark's head knot, double half hitch knot, and gathering knot, you'll have a solid foundation for creating a wide range of macrame projects, including coasters.

The Lark's Head knot is a fundamental mounting knot for various projects. As a mounting knot, it provides a reliable and secure attachment point for your macrame design to a dowel, ring, or other supporting structure. This knot lets you easily hang cords onto your macrame creation, providing a stable foundation for further knotting and design elements.

The Half Hitch knot and Double Half Hitch knot are fundamental and highly versatile in Macrame. It is the building block for many intricate knot patterns, making it an essential technique for creating beautiful macrame designs.

The Gathering Knot is a wrapping knot, a finishing knot that gathers all cords together. Usually, you will see the gathering knot at the bottom of a macrame pattern.

If you need help making the knots above, click on the names above to practice and familiarize yourself with the knots before starting this pattern.

Practice and repetition will help you become more confident in executing these knots, allowing you to explore more intricate patterns and designs.

Benefits and Uses of Macrame Keychain

Macrame keychains offer several benefits and versatile use cases that make them a popular choice among crafters and users alike:

  • Personalized and Stylish: Making your macrame keychain allows you to add a personal touch and express your creativity. You can choose your favorite colors, patterns, and embellishments, making it a unique accessory that reflects your personality and style.
  • Handmade Gifts: Macrame keychains make thoughtful and heartfelt gifts for friends and loved ones. Handcrafting a keychain tailored to their preferences adds a personal touch, making it a cherished memento.
  • Stress Relief and Relaxation: Engaging in Macrame can be a calming and meditative experience. The repetitive nature of knotting can help reduce stress and promote mindfulness, making it an enjoyable hobby for relaxation.
  • Low-Cost Crafting: Macrame is a budget-friendly hobby that requires minimal tools and materials, making it accessible to a wide range of people who want to explore their creative side without breaking the bank.
  • Beginner-Friendly Projects: Macrame keychains are relatively quick to make compared to larger macrame projects like wall hangings or plant hangers. They are an excellent way to practice macrame skills and complete gratifying projects in a shorter time frame.

    Macrame Keychain Cord and Materials

You will need a 4mm macrame single-strand cord and lobster swivel clasp to make the daisy keychain pattern.

    Choosing the cord

The most crucial material is the cord. Macrame cords can be made from various materials such as cotton, jute, or nylon, each offering a different texture and appearance.

Choosing a cord that is soft, sturdy, and suitable for your desired keychain design is essential, ensuring durability and functionality.

What's unique about this pattern is that we use two different color cords to create an alternating-color Daisy pattern. We use a 4mm Mauve and Natural single-strand cord from our Rainbow line.

    • Our Rainbow cord line is certified 100% chemical free and eco-friendly, made from recycled cotton materials.
    • The single-strand type of cord, in particular, comes in various colors.
    • We love it because it's smooth, soft, and sturdy, making it easy to work with.

If you can't get your hands on our single-strand Rainbow cotton cord, try substituting it with our 3-ply Rainbow cotton cord, which will also work well for this pattern and offer a more textured aesthetic.

    Other Supplies

    • Lobster swivel clasp - you will need a swivel lobster clasp for the keychain, or a keyring will also work. These can be purchased at your local craft store or on Amazon.
    • Other than a wooden dowel or a stick to mount the cords onto, additional supplies are not needed to make the pattern.
    • Cord lengths: 2 x 115 cm (45) and 1 x 30 (12)

      Essential tools

You will also need some essential tools:

      Important Macrame Terms for Beginners

Here are some helpful macrame terms you should know when following this pattern:

      1. Knots: The Macrame involves various knots, such as the square knot, double half hitch, and Lark's head knot. Understanding these basic knot patterns creates the foundation of Macrame. Refer to the "Macrame Knots You Will Need To Know" section for the knots used in this pattern.
      2. Cords: Cords are the primary material used in Macrame. They are made of cotton, jute, nylon, or synthetic fibers. Macrame cords come in various thicknesses and colors.
      3. FringeFringe refers to the loose ends of cords that hang down, adding a decorative element to beginner projects. The fringe can be left as is or trimmed to a desired length.
      4. Anchor cord: refers to the fixed cord or structure to which other cords are attached or knotted, providing stability and support to the design.
      5. Working cord: This is the cord that is actively used to create knots and patterns, manipulated and moved throughout the project to form the desired design.
