• Lark's head knot

The above knots are basic knots widely used in many macrame projects.

Macrame Keychain Cord and Materials

You will need a 4mm macrame single-strand cord and lobster swivel clasp to make the daisy keychain pattern.

Choosing the cord

The most crucial material is the cord. Macrame cords can be made from various materials such as cotton, jute, or nylon, each offering a different texture and appearance. 

Choosing a cord that is soft, sturdy, and suitable for your desired keychain design is essential, ensuring durability and functionality.

What's unique about this pattern is that we use two different color cords to create an alternating-color Daisy pattern. We use a 4mm Mauve and Natural single-strand cord from our Rainbow line.

• Our Rainbow cord line is certified 100% chemical free and eco-friendly, made from recycled cotton materials.
• The single-strand type of cord, in particular, comes in various colors.
• We love it because it's smooth, soft, and sturdy, making it easy to work with.

If you can't get your hands on our single-strand Rainbow cotton cord, try substituting it with our 3-ply Rainbow cotton cord, which will also work well for this pattern and offer a more textured aesthetic.

Other Supplies

• Lobster swivel clasp - you will need a swivel lobster clasp for the keychain, or a keyring will also work. These can be purchased at your local craft store or on Amazon.
• Other than a wooden dowel or a stick to mount the cords onto, additional supplies are not needed to make the pattern.
• Cord lengths: 2 x 115 cm (45) and 1 x 30 (12)

•       Scissors
•       Tape

Macrame Daisy Keychain Pattern Details

• 2cm (0.75”) wide by 19cm (7.5”) length

Materials Needed (for 1 unit):

• ~3 meters (118”) of 4mm Macrame Cord
• Swivel lobster clasp/keyring

Cord lengths needed:

• 2 x 115 cm (45”)
• 1 x 30 cm (12”)

** Note: The cord lengths suggested here are based on the pattern using a 4mm single-strand Rainbow Cord. Should you use a different size cord or cord from another brand, actual cord lengths may differ slightly and, therefore, should be adjusted accordingly.

1. Knots: The Macrame involves various knots, such as the square knot, double half hitch, and Lark's head knot. Understanding these basic knot patterns creates the foundation of Macrame. Refer to the "Macrame Knots You Will Need To Know" section for the knots used in this pattern.
2. Cords: Cords are the primary material used in Macrame. They are made of cotton, jute, nylon, or synthetic fibers. Macrame cords come in various thicknesses and colors.
3. Fringe: Fringe refers to the loose ends of cords that hang down, adding a decorative element to beginner projects. The fringe can be left as is or trimmed to a desired length. 
4. Anchor cord: refers to the fixed cord or structure to which other cords are attached or knotted, providing stability and support to the design.
5. Working cord: This is the cord that is actively used to create knots and patterns, manipulated and moved throughout the project to form the desired design.

DIY Macrame Keychain Step-by-Step Instructions

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to make a Daisy keychain pattern:

Step 1:

• Take 1 x 115 cm cord of color #1 and make a Reverse Lark’s Head knot onto the Lobster clasp.
• Attach it onto the bottom of the Lobster Clasp with the reverse Lark’s Head knot.
• Take the loop end through the bottom of the Lobster Clasp and then pull the two cord ends through.

Step 2:

• Take 1 x 115 cm Color #2 cord and place it horizontally above the vertical cords.
• Place it horizontally on top of the two vertical cords.
• Take the middle cords underneath.
• Make a half hitch knot on both sides facing the inside of the pattern, making two half hitch knots.
• Make sure the anchor cord ends are even. Pull on them if necessary.

Step 3:

• Make a Double Half Hitch knot onto the left anchor cord, Repeat the same on the right-side.
• Take the middle left cord and make a double half hitch knot onto the far left anchor cord.
• Take the middle right cord to make a double half hitch knot onto the far right anchor cord.

Step 4:

• Fold over the 2 anchor cords on top of the vertical cords and make a Half Hitch knot on both sides facing the outer sides of the pattern.
• Put the anchor cords on top of the vertical cords. 
• Take the middle right cord to make a double half hitch knot facing the right side.
• Take the left cord to make a double half hitch knot facing the left side. 
• Pull the two anchor cords to tighten.

Step 5:

• Bring the working cords from behind to the top of the pattern and criss cross them. Then make a Half Hitch knot on both sides facing the outer sides of the pattern.
• Alternate the working working cord ends.
• Take the mauve color from the back and take the ends to form a crisscross.
• Take the middle two cords underneath, which are natural colored.
• Start off the next Daisy half hitch knot facing the sides like the how the first Daisy pattern was closed off. 

Step 6:

• Finish off the rest of the Daisy similar to the first one made above.

Step 7:

• Continue alternating the coloured Daisies 3 more times below.

Step 8:

• Using a 30 cm strand of cord, make a Gathering knot at the bottom.

Step 9:

• Trim off excess cords and trim the fringe at the bottom.
