The Macrame Berry Knot: Add Texture and Dimension to Your Macrame Designs

What is the Berry Knot?

The Berry Knot is a fun and playful macrame knot that adds texture and a 3D effect to your projects.

Made by tying a series of square knots and pulling a cord through the center, it creates a raised, rounded shape that looks like a little “berry”—hence the name!

This knot is perfect for adding an extra layer of detail and depth to your macrame work.

Ensure you familiarize yourself with the Square Knot prior to making the Berry knot.

Where can you use the Berry Knot?

The Berry Knot can be used in all kinds of projects—from wall hangings and plant hangers to bags and even jewelry.

It’s great for adding focal points or breaking up the flow of patterns.

The knot brings a sense of uniqueness to your work, making your designs stand out.

Why use the Berry Knot?

If you’re looking to add visual interest and texture to your macrame, the Berry Knot is the way to go.

It’s an easy but effective way to transform your piece from simple to striking.

Plus, it’s a great knot to master for more creative freedom in your designs.

Steps to Tie a Berry Knot:

  • Step 1: Make a Square knot.
  • Step 2: After completing the Square knots, take the middle two cords (the filler cords).
  • Step 3: Pull the filler cords upwards and through the center of the square knots, creating a loop that forms the “berry.”
  • Step 4: Hold the “berry” shape in place and tie another square knot below the berry to secure it.
  • Step 5: Tighten the knot, adjusting the berry shape to your liking.

Pro tip: If you're adding the Berry Knot to your macrame design, be sure to use the higher end of our Golden Ratio when measuring your cords.

This means using 4.5 to 5 times the project length and doubling it if you're folding the cord for attachment.
