Macrame Keychain Wristlet - Two Styles, One Knot.

Hey there, welcome to our easy-to-follow tutorial on crafting your very own macrame keychain wristlet!

I'm here to walk you through the process of creating a trendy and useful accessory using the versatile endless falls knot.

The cool thing about this knot is that it's reversible – on one side, you get that classic chain bar look, while on the flip side, it sports a charming braided cable knit pattern.

When you're done, you get to decide which side you prefer and display it proudly on the outer part of your wristlet.

This project is a breeze and heaps of fun – perfect for everyone to dive into and enjoy!

What is Macrame?

Macrame is a versatile textile art where you use knots to make all sorts of patterns. It's got quite the history, going way back to ancient times and being loved in different cultures.

But guess what? It didn't stop there – in the 1970s, macrame went through a bit of a transformation and became a big hit.

And guess what's happening now? It's making a comeback in modern design and decor!

Today's artists are taking macrame to a whole new level. They're mixing up the old-school techniques with fresh, modern twists.

And what does that mean?

Well, it's led to all kinds of amazing stuff like those fancy wall hangings, those neat plant hangers, and even stylish fashion accessories.

So, basically, macrame isn't just one thing – it's a versatile art that's capturing everyone's attention all over again.

EASY DIY Keychain Wristlet

When it comes to beginners trying out macrame, keychain patterns are my top choice.

Keychains are small projects that don't eat up much time and don't require a ton of cord.

That's why they're perfect for folks just starting – you get to see your progress pretty quickly.

And hey, you want to know the best part? You can totally get creative with the texture and look.

Try out different knots like square knots, double half hitch knots, or even those spiral knots. You can even kick it up a notch by adding beads or fringe to make your keychain pop.

Now, here's the thing: I'm all about functional macrame. It's where practicality meets art, and this pattern is a prime example.

Start with making your own DIY Keychain Wristlet, and you'll get to dive into the awesomeness of this art form while crafting something that's both useful and a treat for the eyes.

Whether you're into that clean and simple style or you're all about that boho vibe, macrame keychain patterns let you infuse your personal flair into your everyday style.

It's like you're becoming a knotting master while expressing yourself at the same time. Cool, right?

Macrame Knots You Need to Know

Macrame knots are the foundation of the whole art. For this project, you will need to know the following knots:

The Endless Falls knot is a decorative sennit that resembles a knitted braid pattern on the front-side. It can be used to make a variety of strap-like projects such as keychains, lanyards, bag straps, plant hangers and jewelry.

The front resembles a knitted pattern whereas the back-side resembles a ladder strap pattern once you turn it around.

The Gathering Knot is a wrapping knot, a finishing knot that gathers all cords together. Usually, you will see the gathering knot at the bottom of a macrame pattern.

Practice and repetition will help you become more confident in executing these knots, allowing you to explore more intricate patterns and designs.

I have compiled a free ebook guide, "50 Macrame Knots & Sennit Guide," that goes over step by step with pictures on how to make 50 different knots and sennits.

DIY Keychain Wristlet Cord & Materials

Bochiknot macrame cord

You'll need a few essential materials and supplies when creating this macrame keychain wristlet pattern.

For this pattern, you will need either 3mm or 4mm macrame cords (preferably in two different colors), and a lobster clasp or keyring.

Choosing the cord

The most crucial material is the cord. Macrame cords can be made from various materials such as cotton, jute, or nylon, each offering a different texture and appearance.

Choosing a cord that is soft, sturdy, and suitable for your desired keychain design is essential, ensuring durability and functionality.

I have used 4mm single strand cord in Mauve and Natural from our Rainbow cord line for this pattern.

  • Our Rainbow cord line is certified 100% chemical free and eco-friendly as the cords are made from recycled cotton.
  • There is a variety of sizes, types, and color offerings to choose from.
  • We love using the Rainbow cords because they are smooth, soft, and sturdy, making them easy to work with.

Other supplies

Other than a lobster clasp or keyring to permanently attach the cords onto, other supplies are not needed.
